Ise
worked from a studio in the north west of Scotland, where
she designed and made stained and painted glass panels using
the same techniques originally developed by medieval
master craftsmen. Her inspiration came from the natural
beauty around her. She was particularly fascinated by the
detailed textures and colours of plants and wildlife,
and by the challenge of translating these into stained
and painted glass.
She
started working with stained glass in 1977, as a
maker/artist, teacher, & restorer/conservator. From 1991
until 2016 she worked on the conservation of medieval
stained glass at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow,
where she had the opportunity to study the work of
medieval craftsmen and to learn from their artistic and
technical skills.
Ise died in February 2024, from
motor neurone disease.
